Curaçao is an island in the Caribbean and part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is an autonomous country. UNICEF Netherlands advocates the improvement of the situation of children throughout the Kingdom. In Curaçao, UNICEF promotes children's rights education and participation activities
UNICEF organized the second edition of the Children's Rights Film Festival in the Caribbean in 2020. This way, UNICEF supports pupils in primary schools through participation activities and children's rights education.
In 2018, the Spring School on Child Rights course was organized for professionals. This program, organized together with the University of Curaçao and Leiden University, is fully focused on children's rights in the Caribbean context. More than 30 professionals from Curaçao and the Caribbean region participated in this unique course. UNICEF will also support a second round of the Spring School program in Curaçao.
UNICEF has been advocating for some time for the improvement of the situation of children. For example, UNICEF conducted a situation analysis in 2013 and published a report on the children's rights situation in Curaçao. This resulted in recommendations for social initiatives and policy measures to improve living conditions and opportunities for children. The analysis was carried out in collaboration with the relevant Curaçao ministries and local organizations. (Also see the Dutch version).
