Collaboration with the government and partners
Together with the government and partners such as the University of Curaçao, Augeo Foundation, and the National Association of Child Abuse Attention Officers, UNICEF Netherlands is working on a safe and stimulating environment for children.
Professionals on Curaçao act faster and better
The government, with support from UNICEF Netherlands, has established a child abuse protection code, the Kodigo di Protekshon. This is a step-by-step plan that allows professionals who work with and for children to act faster and better when they suspect child insecurity. For the implementation of the code, it is important that every organization working with children has a focal point (attention officer). Local experts have been trained by us and our partners in Curaçao so that they can provide the training. An online Toolkit and online magazine 'Kurashi' (developed within the ACT4ECC project) have been launched to inspire and support professionals in applying the code.
Child's interests at the center
It is important that families are quickly and well helped when reporting an unsafe situation or the suspicion thereof. In Curaçao, all involved agencies are housed under one roof, Judicial Care. UNICEF advises the government on ensuring good cooperation and work processes, where the interests of the child are central and the family receives the right help.
Parenting is not always easy
Every parent wants the best for their child, but parenting is not always easy. We work with the government to ensure that parents get the support they need. A vision on parenting programs has been developed, an overview of the offerings has been made, and what is still missing has been mapped out. Based on this, an additional offering is now being rolled out. An evidence-based digital tool is being adapted to Curaçao to help organizations provide more efficient support to parents at times that suit the parents themselves
